The trusted voice before
you spend a penny.
Small business technology advice in the UK usually means a salesman with a quota, or a forum thread that contradicts itself. We are the other thing: a straight answer from someone with no skin in what you buy. What to buy, what to bin, is this a scam, is this worth it. The honest read you want from a clued-up friend, before you sign up to anything or spend real money. We are not a reseller and we take no margin on what we recommend, so the advice is the advice that is right for you.

Orchestrix gives UK small businesses independent technology advice and sourcing help: a straight answer on what to buy, what to bin, whether something is a scam, and whether it is worth it, plus help choosing and buying the right kit and software. We are not a reseller and take no margin on what we recommend. The first conversation is free. For bigger operational questions there is an optional paid audit, but it is never a compulsory gate.
What does
this actually do?
The clued-up friend in the trade you wish you had on speed dial. The one who tells you the quote is double what it should be, or that the shiny thing is a waste of money, before you commit.
Running a small business means a steady stream of tech decisions you never asked to make. A sales rep is pushing a system. A tool you pay for every month might be the wrong one. A quote landed in your inbox and you have no idea whether it is fair or twice what it should be. Some new bit of software promises the earth and you cannot tell if it is real or noise.
This is where you bring those decisions before you act on them. What should I buy. What can I bin. Is this a scam. Is this even worth it. You get a straight answer from someone who has made these calls for businesses far bigger than yours, with no quota to hit and nothing to sell you off the back of it.
The point is to get the honest read before you sign up to anything or spend real money, not after, when the contract is signed and the regret has set in. A ten-minute conversation here has talked people out of bad buys worth far more than the call ever cost. Which, in this case, is nothing.
“Ask before you buy, not after you regret it.”
Who actually
pays us?
This is the part that makes the advice worth having. Read it carefully, because it is the opposite of how most of the trade works.
We help you choose and buy the right kit and software: the laptops, the network gear, the accounting tool, the booking system, whatever the job needs. We will shortlist the real options, tell you what fits and what does not, and walk you through buying it. But here is the part that matters. We are not a reseller. We take no margin, no commission, and no kickback on anything we recommend.
- →You buy the kit and software yourself, at the going rate
- →We make nothing on what you spend, ever
- →No commission, no kickback, no preferred-vendor deals
- →Our value is the judgement, not a markup on the box
Why say it so plainly? Because the moment someone makes money on what they sell you, their advice quietly bends towards the thing that pays them most. We have taken that out of the equation entirely. You pay us for the judgement and the legwork of getting it right. Where you buy and what you pay for it is between you and the seller, at the same price anyone else would get.
What about the
bigger questions?
Some decisions are too big for a phone call. When you are weighing up how the whole operation should run, a chat is not enough to go on. That is what the audit is for.
For bigger operational questions, the ones where the right answer depends on understanding how the whole team actually works, we offer a paid, fixed-fee operational audit. We sit with your team, watch how the work really gets done, and write it up: a map of how the operation runs today, and a prioritised punch list of what is worth fixing, with a fixed-fee proposal against each item so you can act on it however you like.
The audit is optional. It is not a compulsory gate you have to pay for before we will talk to you, and it is not the only way in. Many jobs start with a free chat and then a small fixed-fee piece of work, or with the chat alone. The audit is one tool for one kind of question, the bigger kind, and you only reach for it when it is genuinely the right tool.
If you do go on to build something off the back of the audit, the audit fee credits in full against the work. It is the spec the build is built against, not money down the drain. And if the punch list says the cheapest fix is a tool you can set up yourself in an afternoon, that goes in the document too. The point of the audit is to tell you the truth about your operation, not to manufacture work for us.
“The audit is a tool, not a turnstile. Most jobs never need one.”
How does
it work?
It starts with a free conversation. Most questions get answered right there. The bigger ones can become a scoped audit, but only if that is what they actually need.
- Step 01Fig. 5.01
A free chat
Ring us or get in touch and tell us what you are weighing up: the quote, the tool, the buy you are not sure about. We give you an honest read, on the spot where we can, on whether it is worth it and what we would do. Costs nothing.
- Step 02Fig. 5.02
A small piece of work
If the answer needs more than a chat, the next step is usually small and fixed-fee: shortlist the options, sanity-check the quote, help you choose and buy the right thing. You know the cost before it starts.
- Step 03Fig. 5.03
Or a scoped audit
If the question is genuinely about how the whole operation runs, that is when a paid, fixed-fee audit earns its place. It is optional, agreed up front, and it credits against any build that follows. Most jobs never reach this step.
How much
does it cost?
The chat is free. A straight answer on what to buy, what to bin, whether something is a scam, and whether it is worth it costs you nothing, and there is no obligation after it. Deeper advice, the sourcing legwork, or the optional audit is scope-based and agreed up front, before any work starts, once we both know what you are actually trying to decide. No published number, because the work has no fixed shape, and no surprises on the invoice. The fastest way to a real answer is to ring us on 07754 218 688 and tell us what is on your mind. And remember: we take no margin on anything you go on to buy.

- Is the first conversation really free?
- Yes. The first conversation is a free triage chat, and it costs you nothing. You tell us what you are weighing up, the quote you have been sent, or the tool you are not sure about, and we tell you straight whether we can help and whether it is worth doing at all. There is no meter running and no obligation to do anything afterwards. If the honest answer is that you do not need us, that is what you will hear.
- Do you make money on the kit you recommend?
- No. We are not a reseller and we take no margin, no commission, and no kickback on anything we point you at. You buy the kit or the software yourself, at the going rate, from whoever sells it. Our value is the judgement, not a markup, so the advice you get is the advice that is right for you, not the advice that pays us the most. If a cheaper option is the better one, we will say so.
- Do I have to buy a paid audit first?
- No. The paid operational audit is there for bigger operational questions, where it genuinely helps to map how the whole team works before spending real money. It is optional, not a gate you have to pass through to talk to us. Plenty of jobs start with a free chat and then a small fixed-fee piece of work, or with the chat alone. You only pay for an audit if it is the right tool for what you are trying to decide.
- What if it's not worth doing?
- We will tell you. A big part of the value here is an honest read on whether the thing is worth doing at all. If the right answer is leave it, do not buy it, the tool you have is fine, or this would cost more than it saves, that is the answer you get. We would rather give you a straight no than sell you a yes you will regret.
